Xingyun Wang

Xingyun Wang uses abstract drawings to document the complex feelings of living between Western and Eastern cultures, exploring and normalizing otherness.

On the surface of collaged paper, calligraphic lines, pseudo-language, and ambiguous figures dwell alongside one another. Writing, drawing, and making meaning are intertwined activities for Wang. Ambiguous strokes and figures are obscured from their conventional appearance, creating an eerie psychology between the familiar and enigmatic.

Wang holds a BFA from Purchase College’s School of Art+Design. Their work has been featured in shows at Piano Craft Gallery, Boston; the SUNY Global Center, New York, Loft Artist Association, Stamford, Conn.; Yishujian, Beijing; and Pierogi Gallery, Brooklyn.
